Hi, I'm Jakob. I build AI-powered tools and the systems around them, from first prototype to running in production. With a solid foundation in classic application development, I care as much about clean integration and boring, reliable deployments as about the models themselves.

How it started

history | head

I started programming in fifth grade with Scratch, MIT's visual language where you build programs by snapping blocks together instead of typing code. It didn't take long before I moved on to Java and was running my own game servers for my friends and me.

That was well before AI assistants, so learning meant reading docs, trial and error, and getting roasted on Stack Overflow for asking beginner questions. I also recorded YouTube tutorials on Java programming, and that experience carried me through my programming projects at school.

After school I chose an apprenticeship as an application developer over a purely academic path, because I wanted to build real software for real users from day one.

AI Engineer & Solution Architect at Seelhof Systemberatung GmbH (since Oct 2025), Herborn, Germany.

  • Building Seelhof's own platform for automated incoming invoice processing: recognition, purchase order matching, fully automatic account assignment based on each company's own guidelines, chart of accounts and financial dimensions, and individually configurable approval workflows, all fully integrated into Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations. More at orimize.com.
  • Custom projects for enterprise and mid-sized customers: integrating third-party systems with automated reconciliation and dynamic detection of errors in the source system's export data, AI-driven enrichment of millions of product records, and AI-assisted data migrations.

Focus

ls ~/skills

  • AI engineering: building the logic behind AI rather than the chat window: LLM-driven decision engines, agentic workflows and data extraction, validation and enrichment that run inside business processes, including AI integration into Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O, built on Claude, OpenAI and Azure OpenAI with vector search, evals and local models
  • Solution architecture: end-to-end architecture for how AI, ERP and custom software fit together, from requirements and system design to integration patterns that hold up in production
  • Automated pipelines: CI/CD and data pipelines that build, test, validate and deploy without manual steps, so changes reach production fast and reproducibly
  • Full-stack development: modern web apps with TypeScript, React, Vue and Tailwind CSS, backed by Python, X++, PostgreSQL and serverless platforms like Firebase and Supabase
  • DevOps & infrastructure: Azure DevOps pipelines, boards and repos, containerised workloads with Docker and Kubernetes, and hands-on experience with both Git and TFVC version control, down to self-hosted deployments like the setup running this site

Aviation. I'm a passionate pilot and aviation enthusiast. I hold a LAPL(A), the EASA Light Aircraft Pilot Licence for aeroplanes, which lets me fly single-engine aircraft across Europe with up to three passengers. Right now I'm working on my night VFR rating (NVFR) and my PPL(A), the full Private Pilot Licence. My home base is the airfield Breitscheid (EDGB), where I also built and run the website edgb.de. I write about flying on the blog.

Skiing, bouldering & hiking. I've been on skis since I was a kid, and the mountains are still where I recharge best. Since early 2024 I've also been bouldering, a habit that started with my very first session in Indonesia and has stuck with me ever since. In summer I swap skis for hiking boots: so far in the Alps and the Dinaric Alps, next up the Atlas Mountains, and maybe one day the Himalayas ;)

Travel. Traveling is a huge privilege, and I'm very grateful for the chances I've had to explore places like Indonesia, China, and southern Africa over the years. Closer to home, I've seen much of Europe, from Norway and Latvia via Denmark, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria all the way down to Italy, Portugal and Greece. Lately, the other side of the Atlantic keeps calling. Some of these stories and trips might end up right here on the blog.

Side projects. Outside my day job I help people and businesses around me get their tech in order, from connecting and building online shops to rolling out merchandise management systems and accounting, plus websites like the one for the airfield.
